"Hello, my name is Paul Cavonis. Thank you so much for watching this video. The purpose of this video is to describe the settlement negotiations and the settlement process in your case. You may have heard me say this before, but there are two main settlement negotiations in your case. The first is with the at fault party or the at fault party's insurance company. It is during that process that we try to get you the highest gross settlement amount possible in your case. Once we achieve that, we then move on to the second negotiation. A
nd this second negotiation is equally as important. It is during this second negotiation where we try to get you the highest net settlement amount. It's like your paycheck. You don't get to keep everything that you've earned because you have to pay taxes and insurance and things like that. And what we do during this second negotiation is negotiate, for example, your outstanding medical bills.
We negotiate any medical health insurance liens that may be applicable in your case. And keep in mind that every dollar saved in this second negotiation is another dollar in your pocket. It's a dollar for dollar increase in your net settlement amount. A lot of attorneys do not go to the great lengths that we go through during the second negotiation process. Why? Well, because it doesn't affect their fee. The attorney fee comes right off the top, and a lot of attorneys unfortunately take the position that the second negotiation isn't very important. But we treat this second negotiation very, very seriously. And in some cases, it's even more important than the first negotiation.
This process takes time. It is important that you be patient during this process so we can get you the highest net settlement possible. For example, when we're dealing with insurance companies and we're discussing reductions in their liens, oftentimes we have to go through multiple layers of bureaucracy within that health insurance company in order to get to the right person who can make the decision that we want them to make so we can get to a number that increases your net settlement amount.
The same is true for government agencies like Medicare or Medicaid. Same is true for workers' compensation. What I want you to do is just please be patient because we are doing this entirely for your benefit. And again, bears repeating. Every dollar saved during this second negotiation is another dollar in your pocket. Thanks so much for watching, and again, as always, thank you for giving us the opportunity to represent you."
